How Is
Your Crop?
|
|
“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for
whatsoever a man soweth that shall he also reap. He that soweth to his
flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit
shall reap life everlasting. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in
due season we shall reap if we faith not.”
The principle is stated. It’s sowing and reaping. Sowing and reaping are a fact of life. As long as there has been man, there has been sowing and reaping. It is according to God’s order (Genesis 1:11-12). Everything producing “after its own kind” is God’s way of keeping things going. The principle of sowing and reaping is as true spiritually as is its physical counterpart. Whatever you plant is what you’re going to reap. Far too many people want to sow their wild oats then pray for a crop failure. It won’t work. Whatever you sow, that’s what you’ll reap. It’s a principle. And principles don’t change. So, how’s your crop? The assignment is given. There is work to do. We have to be about our sowing. Our work of broadcasting the seed to the world is important. Our producing fruit toward our own spiritual maturity is important. Cultivating strong spiritual families is the responsibility of every parent. Actually, fruit bearing is what we’re all about. The assignment is simple: Sow to the spirit. The result is stated: reap spiritual ends. So, how’s your crop? The danger is emphasized. “Be not weary in well-doing.” There is always the danger of our getting tired or overburdened with our spiritual chores. We have to guard against discouragement, lethargy, dereliction. If you hoe cotton and quit too soon, the weeds will take over the cotton patch. You have to keep on keeping on or the weeds will choke out your spiritual harvest. So, how’s your crop? The reward is offered. “In due season we shall reap if we faint not.” If we just keep on then we will one day see that it was worth it. No matter how hard the sowing, no matter how hard the hoeing, the harvest is worth it. It just makes good sense to keep on doing good because, by the grace of God, it will take us where we really want to go—to heaven. So how’s your crop?
