His Ways, Not Ours

God has long chosen the foolish and weak things of the world to shame the wise and strong (1 Cor. 1:18-31). Had we been in control of character selection, we would never have picked Moses, “never an eloquent man,” to be the deliverer of the Israelites. Out of all the cities in the land, we would never have chosen the little town of Bethlehem as the birthplace of the King of kings. But His ways are not our ways.

Everyone is important. If God chose only the kings and princes of the world, what hope would there be for us? In His plan however, He needs everyone, and no member of His kingdom is more important than the other. You may be a nobleman, like the eunuch, or just a fisherman, like Peter, but the Lord has use for you because you’re important.

Everyone has something to do. Where would the spies in Jericho have gone were it not for Rahab, the town prostitute? What would have happened to Paul if his young nephew had not warned him of the ambush? God uses everyone and bestows upon them special abilities and opportunities that they can use to His glory and benefit.

Everyone can rise to their full potential. Peter was an uneducated, untrained man that became a rock of faith and boldness and eloquence. Moses said he was “slow of speech” but by the time God was through with him he delivered the farewell address in Deuteronomy. Let Him mold and make you into what you ought to be.

The Lord’s ways turn timidity into courage, weakness into strength, failure into faith, so let Him have His way with you.
